Up top is Laura’s and my Christmas card this year. She came up with the basic idea (a cat and a video Yule log) and I turned it in to a card. Teamwork!
The second picture is from the Lucius show at the Bowery Ballroom a few weeks back. I posted my drawings from that night already, but I wanted to share this pic of their “cheat sheet” that I snapped backstage. At the end of the show, the band members went out in to the house for their encore, a cover of John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War is Over). It was sort of magic.
Another year over, and a new one just begun….
Happy Holidays to everyone and may 2014 bring joy, peace and adventures….

Last night I ended up at The Blind Pig Speakeasy, an invite-only gathering tucked away behind a bar somewhere in Brooklyn. It was a laid-back affair with good drinks invented by the hostess, Nucomme. Nucomme’s good at getting good people together for a hang. Last night, the musical guest was Stew, trying out some new songs and mingling in the crowd of artists and fine folk. Nucomme’s husband—my studio-mate—Ajamu Kojo Chioke Walker wandered the scene with his camera, documenting the event. I mostly just listened and hung out—I’m breathing into holiday relaxing—but I did capture this drawing of Ajamu at work. If you ever find yourself with an invite to Nucomme’s world, you should say yes…

Starting my End Of Year Review with Bob Boilen’s NPR feature on my drawings from GlobalFest in January. Looking forward to drawing the event again in a few weeks for NPR! By the way, I really like Boilen’s web-site splash page.
