Just before midnight last night,on my walk back from the studio, I crossed 4th place along Court as the stop-light was changing from yellow to red. A soccer mom van going along Court sorta missed the change and rolled into the middle of the intersection and just stopped for the full length of the light. No traffic came as the van in the middle of the intersection waited for the light to turn green.

A Life In The Theater by Michael Arthur

An "outtake" from my recent Hedwig Sketchbook report for Vanity Fair. This is actually the first drawing I did the week of tech. It shows the stage manager and a costumer in the house, watching as John Cameron Mitchell rehearsed. The costumer ended up being the audience stand in whenever Mitchell practiced his "in the house" moments.

Last night at The Twitter Fiction Festival, I got to draw along on stage with the great R.L. Stine while he told a ghost story! I also drew some of the participants and the drawings were live tweeted as I drew them to millions and millions and millions of people. Probably.

Pictured here (in addition to Mr. Stine) are Matt Gehring, Sara Barron, Diana Spechler and Christian Finnegan. It was a great night and I’d like to thank Penguin Books, randomhouse and Twitter for inviting me along!

They Sing, He Draws by Michael Arthur

Starting my End Of Year Review with Bob Boilen’s NPR feature on my drawings from GlobalFest in January. Looking forward to drawing the event again in a few weeks for NPR! By the way, I really like Boilen’s web-site splash page.

It’s a snowy day in Brooklyn. Here’s a silly video I threw together using the iPad Brushes program in the days after the big blizzard of 2011. Went out the day after the big snow and took some pics and then just drew on them. Josh Kaufman gave me an unreleased Rocketship Park song for the score.

Hope everyone’s warm out there!

Here’s my live-drawing and some detail shots from last night’s Balthrop, Alabama set at Joe’s Pub. Bernie DeChant snapped that sweet show pic. Hot Holy Wow, was this a fun night! The audience was packed with people drawing and sketching us and we had a damn party on stage. I can’t believe how much fun it was. Thanks to everyone at Joe’s Pub, Lauretta Charlton, Shanta Thake, Emefe and all the amazing artists who came along to draw! And special thanks to Michael Kalman and Stillman & Birn for providing drawing pads to all the artists and musicians. I used the Beta Series sketchbook they gave me to do the drawing during the set!

Michael Arthur (Inklines) posting again today, featuring another artist submission! This time it’s a lovely, simple drawing of my friend Michael Leviton from chadilaksono. What a lovely surprise to see someone I know drawn so beautifully. Check out Caroline’s page for many other beautiful line and wash drawings of scenes from NYC music and life.

I hope Caroline can join us as our guest for drawing the Balthrop, Alabama show on November 19! We’re looking for lots of people to come and draw along! If you want to submit drawings for us to consider, check out the original post here! We’ll be featuring drawings EVERY DAY from now until November 19!

As a side note—have you ever seen Michael Leviton’s beautiful video for his song Summer’s The Worst? It’s one of my favorites . .  .
